The château park [ Castle park ]
Title: château park
Identificator: 8-1622/2
Community: Kunín
Statute of the monument: KP
The area of the whole park is about 8 hectares. It was established in the time of constructing the château - during 1726 - 1734 (when J.L. Hildebrandt lived in Kunín)
The original garden had a utilitarian character. The château park flourished during 1781 - 1828 until the time of property of Marie Walburga, countess Truchsess-Zeil. This intellectual woman established here an educational institute in 1792. Pupils were well educated. They knew how to grow fruit trees, there was a kitchen garden and an orchard in the park. The countess had many trees planted even in the Kunín surroundings. In front of the park there was a French classical parterre at the beginning of the 19th century. The remaining part of the park was conceived as an English park created by groups of grown trees, mainly oak-trees, lime-trees, maples, beeches, connifers, enriched by many exotic trees and shrubs. Under the trees there were many herbs - in particular anemones, primroses, pulmonaries and many others. At the back of the park a little pond was situated.
In 1833 - 1880 a greenhouse was constructed in the garden, where exotic plants such as Victoria regia were planted. Even palms grew here. The greenhouse was heated by the central heating - hot water. In its proximity there was a small brick house for the gardener and two smaller greenhouses (probably hotbeds), serving for utilitarian plants. Closer to the château there used to be a skittle alley (originally a wooden baroque building, later it was reconstructed). The skittle alley served in the past years as a summer dining-hall and many "week-end hikers" used to come here. At the west end of the park there was a "Cheese cellar" serving for cheese riping. Near the château there was a church and behind the château some premises were situated. Behind them there were orchards and a kitchen garden.
