Urban monuments preservation area Brno [ Městská památková rezervace ]
The first written mention of the city comes in 1091; its rights and privileges were confirmed in 1243 by King Wenceslav I of Bohemia.
Among the most important monuments are the Špilberk (Spielberg) castle and fortress, the Old Town Hall, the Old Brno Monastery, the tombs in the Capuchin church, the Měnín Gate, the Beseda House, the Villa Tugendhat, the Church of St Peter and Paul (Petrov), St Wenceslas´ Church, the New Hall, the Kounic college, the Mahen theatre, the Moravian Provincial Museum atc.
