A castle, built in the thirteenth century, is one of the most visited monuments in the Czech Republic.
The political and military importance of the castle reached its height in the 15 - 17th century, when a sophisticated system of fortifications was built up.
The castle became a symbol of the monumental expansion of power and wealth of the Pernštejn family.
